Why you should try marenda - Dalmatian brunch

Why you should try marenda - Dalmatian brunch

Brunch is a hot meal eaten before lunch, usually served between 11 am to 12 pm, and eaten with company. Did you know that Dalmatian people have their own version of brunch, called marenda? It’s not full course meal such as lunch, but it sure is something that will fill you with enough energy to enjoy the rest of the day exploring narrow streets of Dalmatian historical towns.

Marenda usually includes dishes eaten by a spoon, made with fresh local food – in coastal Dalmatia that’s usually fish, and in its hinterland meat and cabbage plants. Marenda is not just a meal, it's a whole experience combining flavors, smells, and the sound of Dalmatian song. Having marenda, you can truly feel Mediterranean way of life. That's why the Tourist Board of Split-Dalmatia County decided to brand marenda as a tourist product that represents our way of life, through the connection of taverns and local family farms. So, when you find your self in Dalmatia, leave your brunch at home and try the authentic flavors of Mediterranean cuisine.
