The best Bike & Wine Tasting Tours in Croatia

The best Bike & Wine Tasting Tours in Croatia

Do you imagine the perfect vacation as a combination of local food, wine, culture, and some outdoor activity? In that case, bike & wine tours are the right thing for you. Here is our selection of the most interesting wine regions in Croatia that you can discover on a bike:

Pelješac peninsula - Pelješac is the second largest Croatian peninsula, famous for its wines, oysters, and beautiful scenery. The ideal way to explore this peninsula is by bike, which includes visiting some of the best Croatian winemakers, a ride to the town of Ston (famous for the longest city walls in Europe), and the Bay of Mali Ston where mussels and oysters have been cultivated since ancient times.

bikewine1Hvar island - like Pelješac, the island of Hvar is also known for its excellent Plavac wine, but also for lush lavender fields, olive groves, beautiful historical towns, and mild climate, which gave it the name of “the sunniest Croatian island”. Exploring the Hvar roads will surely be a ride to remember. You can stop at one of the local wineries and enjoy local wine and olive oil, visit a small factory of essential oils made from lavender and other aromatic herbs, dine at the local restaurants, and simply enjoy the atmosphere of this authentic Mediterranean island.

Ravni Kotari - still undiscovered, but an equally wonderful part of Croatia is Ravni Kotari, located in the hinterland of the beautiful historical city of Zadar. This is the most fertile part of the Dalmatia region, full of picturesque villages with authentic rural architecture. While cycling through this area, get to know local winemakers who will be happy to introduce you to the 2,000-year-old tradition of growing vines. Besides wine and olives, numerous other crops grow in this area, like 50 types of edible figs. You can try them at one of many family farms in the area.

Plešivica - The southwest of Zagreb stands the mountain Plešivica, the smallest wine region in Croatia, but with a thousand-year tradition of production.  We strongly recommend you visit the bikewineblogKorak estate, a family winery growing the highest quality grapes, and producing signature wines and food. In addition to excellent wine, this area is also known for its cheese production and very good hiking and biking trails. On the hills of Plešivica, you can often see flying hawks, and that's how the town Jastrebarsko (jastreb=hawk) at the foot of this mountain got its name.

Istria - Istrian peninsula, one of the most beautiful regions in Croatia, is rightfully called „Terra Magica“ – Magical Land. It’s a true paradise for lovers of history, art, nature, and great food and wine. The inland of Istria is especially suitable for bicycle tours. Explore this beautiful scenery on two wheels, passing through a row of rolling hills and charming medieval hilltop towns. On your way, stop for a taste of excellent Istrian wines - white Malvasia Istriana, and red - Teran and Refosco.
